Eternal Vigilance

Some thoughts as the government is poised to take over yet more control of America.

"THOSE WHO EXPECT TO REAP THE BLESSINGS OF FREEDOM MUST, LIKE MEN, UNDERGO THE FATIGUE OF SUPPORTING IT."
Thomas Paine

"But you must remember, my fellow citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government."
Andrew Jackson

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Benjamin Franklin

"THE GREATEST TYRANNIES ARE ALWAYS PERPETRATED IN THE NAME OF THE NOBLEST CAUSES."
Thomas Paine

"Voting is no substitute for the eternal vigilance that every friend of freedom must demonstrate towards government. If our freedom is to survive, Americans must become far better informed of the dangers from Washington- regardless of who wins the Presidency."
James Bovard

"THE THINGS THAT WILL DESTROY AMERICA ARE PROSPERITY AT ANY PRICE, PEACE AT ANY PRICE, SAFETY FIRST INSTEAD OF DUTY FIRST, THE LOVE OF SOFT LIVING AND THE GET RICH QUICK THEORY OF LIFE."
Theodore Roosevelt

"The issue today is the same as it has been throughtout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite."
Thomas Jefferson

AND POSSIBLY MY FAVORITE FOR TODAY:

"THE TWO ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE ARE CRIMINALS AND GOVERNMENT, SO LET US TIE THE SECOND DOWN WITH THE CHAINS OF THE CONSTITUTION SO THE SECOND WILL NOT BECOME THE LEGALIZED VERSION OF THE FIRST."
Thomas Jefferson

Light, Liberty, and Learning

LEARNING

"There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass
an examination, and finish with your education. The whole of life,
from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process
of learning." Jiddu Krishnamurti

"The wisest mind has something yet to learn."
George Santayana

One of the privileges I enjoy being a homeschool mom to my oldest three children is that I am always challenged to learn new things. As my children age, I look forward to each school year and the wealth of ideas, facts, and information we will face.
Learning is not something that takes place simply within the 4 walls of a classroom or institution. Regardless of ones age, he should still be learning, growing, expanding.

"Develop a passion for learning. If you do you will never cease
to grow." Anthony J D'Angelo

LIBERTY
"What spectacle can be more edifying or more reasonable than that of liberty and learning, each leaning on the other for their mutual support?"
James Madison

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization,
it expects what never was and never will be."
Thomas Jefferson

Liberty and learning go hand in hand. Whether one is referring to political liberty, Spiritual liberty, intellectual liberty...
The ignorant will always be susceptible to tyranny and oppression.

"Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppression of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day."
Thomas Jefferson

LIGHT

Light is synonymous with truth. To have true learning and liberty one must have truth. Truth is an absolute that some men fear.

"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."
Plato
Many would rather find ease and comfort in the avoidance of a higher truth.

"Truth, like a light, blinds. Falsehood, on the contrary, is a beautiful twilight that enhances every object."
Albert Camus
"God is not a hypothesis derived from logical assumptions, but an immediate insight, self-evident as light. He is not something to be sought after in
the darkness with the light of reason. He IS the light."
Abraham Joshua Heschel
This blog will contain my thoughts and questions concerning these three areas: light, liberty and learning. I am a lover of quotes so you will see many.
I love to read a variety of non-fiction books. This will be my place to review
and evaluate them.

As a homeschool mom, I am always interested in exchanging ideas and curriculum reviews with others. So I will also include reviews of homeschool materials.

Please visit often and feel free to share your thoughts and questions regarding
LIGHT, LIBERTY, AND LEARNING.

And, OF COURSE, feel free to leave a great quote!!

"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong."
Abraham Lincoln
